DAN’s Mission: The DAN mission is to support angel investors and their dual-use and defense-focused investments.
This includes finding and supporting mission-critical new startups in the U.S. and allied nations.
To fulfill this mission, DAN works alongside the Hacking for Defense (“H4D”) programs.
H4D + DAN:
H4D is a course offered in 50+ American universities. Supported by
the Department of War, the course first launched in 2016 at Stanford University and is
now offered nationwide. H4D teaches students how to create commercial and dual-use
startups to rapidly address the nation’s emerging threats and security challenges,
as well as how to work with the U.S. and allied Defense and Intelligence Communities.
DAN-affiliated angel investors are selected to engage with, mentor, and
potentially invest in successful H4D teams from the universities in their regions.
Mentor training is available.
DIU:
The top twenty teams per year from H4D, which is run by BMNT, receive
support from the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), the Department of War’s accelerator
for commercial and dual-use technology adoption across the military.
The DIU mission is to convert entrepreneurial products into combat power for the Joint Force at commercial speed. H4D winning teams receive this support via DIU’s regional network, the Defense Innovation OnRamp Hubs.
The OnRamp Hubs are in eight states across the country, and DIU keeps five further regional offices — thirteen locations in all. Each is affiliated with universities running H4D programs in its area.
